The Minnesota Agri-Growth Council (Agri-Growth) announced the 2013 Distinguished Service Award winner at the Annual Meeting and Speakers Conference on November 5, 2013. The Distinguished Service Award is given to deserving individuals or teams who have made significant contributions to Minnesota’s food and agriculture industry. This year Agri-Growth extended the award to Rob Zeaske, CEO of Second Harvest Heartland. Second Harvest Heartland is the upper Midwest’s largest hunger relief organization, whose goal is not only to help the hungry and food insecure, but also to provide the means for greater food relief in the future. Rob Zeaske has helped lead the organization’s new efforts in the area of agricultural surplus capture. Second Harvest Heartland partners with farmers and food companies to secure unharvested or unpurchased crops from fields. Rob Zeaske accepted the award during the luncheon program of the Agri-Growth Annual Meeting and Speakers Conference. Zeaske accepted the award and gave heartfelt thanks to staff and partners. He remarked, “I feel like I have the best job. … I get to work with the best staff. … Everyday we make a difference. … And the third reason I love my job is because I get to work with [food and agriculture]partners like you.”
