Saint Paul, Minn. - Today, the Minnesota AgriGrowth Council (AgriGrowth) announced it hired Darin Broton as its next executive director. He will officially begin his new role June 10.
Broton comes from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), where he serves as a senior advisor to the commissioner. He guides the agency’s strategic communications and policy counsel regarding high-profile issues facing the agency, including agriculture, mining, local economic development, relations with federal agencies and the Minnesota Legislature.
Before joining the MPCA in 2019, Darin led public affairs at Tunheim, a strategic communication and management consultancy, for more than 12 years. In addition, he worked in the U.S. House of Representatives, the Minnesota Attorney General's Office, and the Minnesota Senate.
“Minnesota is a global leader in agriculture and home to some of the most renowned food companies. To remain a leader, Minnesota needs a strong advocate for farmers and agribusiness that are the backbone of our state’s economy,” said Broton. “I am excited to lead an organization that has helped position Minnesota as a leader, and look forward to tackling new and existing challenges facing our farmers and food industry to ensure we have a strong rural farming economy.”
“AgriGrowth brings together diverse stakeholders across agriculture and food, serving as Minnesota’s leading voice for our industry for more than 50 years,” said Sheryl Meshke, AgriGrowth’s Board Chair. “Darin Broton will advocate for a strong agri-food sector, elevating our members’ priorities among policymakers and telling the story of agriculture and food.”
